The plans for a new £3 million hotel in the centre of Gainsborough were unanimously approved by members of West Lindsey District Council’s Planning Committee, praising the high quality of the design in August this year but the decision was referred to the Department for Communities and Local Government for final approval.
The DCLG has now confirmed that the decision can be determined locally – effectively upholding the councillors’ unanimous approval and giving the go-ahead for the plans.
The development will transform the former Sun Inn site adjacent the successful Marshall’s Yard with a delicately designed Edwardian style hotel incorporating 51 bedrooms.
The design was carefully considered and revised so to ensure it complimented its surrounding area on this prominent town centre site. Councilors unanimously agreed that the new building was of an extremely high standard and would enhance the area.
Amanda Holmes, Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties said: “Members carefully weighed up the merits of the existing building and the wider benefits to the local economy of the new hotel and a redevelopment of the site. This is a key site in Gainsborough and we have worked with our architects to deliver a well-designed and attractive building which will really enhance this part of the town.”
